Update, yo!

Ok, so 2 days in, and it hasn't been too bad.  Breakfast and lunch are easy:

Breakfast:
Smoothie (1 cup yogurt, sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
1 egg (just whites) - 7 pts.

Lunch:
Salad (spring salad mix, sliced turkey breast, strawberries, parmesean cheese, chopped pecans, tomatoes, Raspberry vinaigrette dressing, sliced mushrooms) - 5 pts

Snacks:
tea, fruit salad (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries), baby carrots - 2 pts

I worked until 9:30 the last two nights so here's what dinner looked like:
sliced turkey breast, cheddar cheese slices - 7 pts.

The hardest part is when I get a craving for something salty in the afternoon.  I think tomorrow I'll save the tomato for an afternoon snack - tomato with salt.

Also, working until 9:30 leaves no time to make dinner, which means I'll be having the EXACT same thing tomorrow.  That does not excite me at all.  Also, tomorrow Pam comes with her delicious catered lunch tomorrow.  AND we have birthday cake in the afternoon.  Both will be SERIOUSLY hard to avoid.

5 more days...

Don't forget weigh-in tomorrow.

Challenge

So, tomorrow I'm starting a new project.  I've been thinking alot about what I eat, and I've been thinking for a while that for my main meals I really don't eat that badly, save for the occasional poker night pizza or something.

Really where I have a hard time is with snacking.  Wheat thins, pretzels, cheeze-its, chips & salsa.  Basically alot of processed foods.

So I'm challenging myself this week to only eat foods that I've prepared, or that are raw.  The only exceptions would be Dairy.  I obviously don't have the resources to milk my own cows or make my own yogurt.

I just want to see how hard it is to avoid all of that processed food that is so much a part of American Cuisine.  Also, that stuff isn't cheap.  It adds up.  So, maybe I'll save some money, too.

So, I'll keep you posted daily on what I've been eating.

Wish me luck!

Update

Weighed in Wednesday after step and was the same weight. Have to admit, I wasn't too terribly disappointed considering the terrible foods I ate over spring break and the lack of exercise. This week I managed to get in workouts on Tues, Wed and yest. Going fishing in a little while, so no working out today, but fishing wins!

Tues - 25 min on the treadmill, volleyball game

Wed - Step for an hour

Thurs - Body conditioning class (1 hr)

So far this week: approx. 1500 calories burned.

So I googled "rain" images to celebrate the week of rain we've had here, and this is what came up:

ridiculous

still no weight loss.  and this week hasn't been good...working until 7:00 every night, lots of errands.  Leaves no time for exercise.  J & I are starting a 5K training program though.  Will post more later.

and then

I made some banana bread.

Yum-o!

Tonight was a simple, but tasty meal.  The chicken I made up, the carrots are from Better Homes & Gardens cookbook.

Chicken:
In a small saucepan, melt a tablespoon of butter.  Saute about a quarter of an onion over medium heat.  Add 1/4 c. bbq sauce.  Lightly season 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breast with seasoning.  Add to saucepan & cook until done (around 8 minutes).

Carrots:
Add 1 lb baby carrots to boiling, salted water.  Cook covered until just done (about 8 minutes).  Drain and set aside.  In the same bowl, combine 1 tbsp butter or margarine, 1 tbsp honey, 1/4 tsp dried thyme, crushed, pinch of salt & pepper.  Cook until combined.  Add Carrots back to mixture & stir until combined (about 2 minutes).

Oh yeah..

...I've also managed to keep a consistent weight this week even with the bad habits..this is according to the crap scale at the house. Will weigh in Wed. at the gym after step. can't wait!!

I'm BACK!

Went on a little hiatus during spring break. Managed to get a couple of semi-workouts in over the break but nothing since early last week. Hoping for good weather tomorrow to go for an outdoor run. I have a lot to catch up on this week but need to get back into a good groove. That's my key for success.
Had some good (fattening) meals and some healthy ones, too, thanks to sister. Wasn't too hungry tonight so settled on some Bush's baked beans for dinner. talk about healthy.

MIA

So...this is the longest i've gone without posting.  Yes, mom.  It is because I've been being bad.  I've actually been doing pretty well with running - going about 3 days a week.  But the diet has been harder.  I think because I was working so hard at eating well, and it's has not paid off AT ALL.

It's so frustrating!  I know that I slip sometimes, but i'm still eating so much better than I had been.  So I'm going to try to re-set.  I don't have a plan yet, but I have to do something.  There's only like 7 weeks left.

baaaad

i am eating caramel fudge cheesecake from papa dante's in bed. i wonder, since i really didn't eat all day, if this little slice of cake is within my 1500 caloric intake range. hmmmm... i do know one thing: milk makes this experience 100 times better!

2 For 2

Worked out for the second day in a row last night.  That's awesome, because normally I'm good if I work out two weeks in a row.  I ran down to the bay and back (just over a mile), then came back and did this workout.  (thanks, Emily!) Only, one iteration of it kicked my butt.  So, while I made it through the lather & rinse steps, "repeat" was just too daunting a task.

Let's see if I can make tonight day 3!

oh.  and don't forget about the weigh-ins.

2 Items of Interest

1.  I worked out last night!  Wahoo!  I did:
  • 5 minute warm-up
  • an for 15 minutes (1.5 miles)
  • 5 minute cool-down
  • 10 minutes of weights
I had planned to do an hr workout, but I didn't get off of work until 7:30.  This meant that if I worked out any longer I wouldn't get to eat dinner until, like 10.

2.  We were talking about Easter candy at work today.  I said my favorite are those marshmallow bunnies.  Not Peeps - the ones that come individually wrapped in matching cellophane.  No one had heard of them.  So I turned to Google to illustrate my point.  Then I came across this:

JESUS PEEP??? SERIOUSLY?  So I sent it to a couple people at work who I knew would find it amusing.  one of them responded with this:

A PEEP SHOW! Bah Ha Ha Ha!

Thought you guys would enjoy those.

Happy Tuesday.  Remember what tomorrow is!

Ok, fine. But she's still annoying.

Tried a new recipe today.  I was hungry for pork, and happened to find this recipe on caloriecount.about.com.  This is one of my favorite diet sites.  It's very comprehensive when it comes to the food database, and users add their own recipes.  It has a handy tool where you can import your own recipes and it'll give you the nutritional value.

This particular recipe is credited to Rachel Ray.  I find her extremely annoying, and have never made a recipe of hers strictly on principle.  This one just sounded way too good, though.  And easy.  Which is important, since I've never made pork before.  It was SOO good.  Jack approved as well.  So I may try another of Ms. Ray's Recipes, but only ones I find online.  You can find the recipe here

Emily - love the workout chart.  I did walk to the park today.  It's only 1/4 mile from my apartment, so I wouldn't consider it a workout, but it was a little exercise nonetheless.

One good thing about Spring Forward - I will actually get to see daylight when I leave work, so hopefully will start running again in the evenings.

Emily - so far, so good on the weather for your visit!

Let's Rodeo

So all last week I was eating (mostly) well in preparation for the rodeo, since I knew I would be splurging a little. I ended up eating a big brisket sandwich with some kind of jalapeno bread, shared a piece of pecan pie with my friend, and had a couple of drinks. The worst part? I didn't regret any of it. DELICIOUS. I managed to recover pretty well until last night when I had french toast at a little diner at 2am.

Also did a 5k this weekend. Finished it in 30 minutes, so not too bad, but did make me realize how much I miss/need to be running outside again. After, they had fitness tests. Skipped out on the flexibility because I already know I'm not, but had a BP of 98/56 and % body fat of 27.8. That SUCKS. 21-25% is the "doing well" category.

I found this chart on shape.com and kind of fell in love with it. I always put little stickers or a star on my calendar on days I work out so I feel like a loser on the days I don't, but I like the way this breaks it down. Go here: http://www.shapeonline.com/2006/imgs/beachbody.pdf

Goals for the week:
  • Get 4 long workouts to make up for leaving town Friday, including an outdoor run
  • Eat healthy until Thursday, when at the rodeo again
  • Maintain workouts & healthy eating while in California

Three Cheers For Kerri & Emily!

Week 3 Weigh-ins are here.  Here's the progress.  0 is the baseline, which means that we ALL weigh less than when we started.  WOO HOO!

Sadly, I think I've hit a plateau.  Which is really bad since it's Week 3, and my net weight loss is a half a pound.

Goals for the week:
  1. Stay below my points every day.  Using bonus points is cheating
  2. Workout more than once a week.  I'm contemplating joining the PJCC, because I'm much more motivated to workout in a class environment.  I get bored working out on my own, and tend to quit the second it gets hard.
  3. NO MORE CANDY!  I should've put carrots in the Texas Independence Day Pinata.

The Formula for Success

Is apparently to not munch of crap food when you're not hungry. Lost 3 pounds! :D
Workouts this week:
Monday - Home workout (strength training)
Tuesday- Ran a little over 5k in about 32 minutes
Wednesday- Step class
Thursday- I plan on getting my HR up by watching bullriders at the rodeo. But really, weights or running again for the 5k
I'll try to scrounge up some more work out tips this weekend and post them.
CAN'T WAIT FOR CALIFORNIA!! T-minus 9 days.

Welcome Back!

Glad to see you back here, Keke.

Don't forget to weigh in today, gals.  I already weighed in this morning, but I didn't like it, so I'm going to work out after work and see if that helps.  Is that cheating?

I've been bad the last few days.  I hate that I'm an emotional eater.  Monday night I went and had a drink at BJ's Brewhouse with one of our Colorado guys that's in town.  Yesterday I ate way too much leftover pinata candy.  I took it to work so that I wouldn't eat it.  Only now I eat it at work.  But everyone at work knows I'm on a diet, so they ridicule me when I get up to go get some smarties.  That helps.

So enough about that for now.  Emily, I would like this opportunity to discuss your impending visit.  I could do this via email, but this way we'll make Kerri jealous and she'll want to come out here to see me, too.

Friday:  Emily Arrives at SFO.  Grab Some dinner, chill out, maybe go out for drinks.
Saturday:  City!  We'll do all the things you haven't gotten to do yet.  Go shopping in Union Square, ride a cable car, get some gelato in Little Italy, Tulip Garden, hit the sack early
Sunday:   TAHOE!
Monday:  Lauren has to work, so you can spend the day recouperating.  But maybe meet up for lunch?
Tuesday: Point Reyes.  It's an hr and a half a way, so I figure we can leave like around 8, head up there, see some whales, and come back to Foster City that evening

Other options:  Santa Cruz board walk, a second day in the city, what do you think?

No Miss Goody TwoShoes Here, Either.

Splurged and had a vanilla milkshake today. Couldn't help it! I've been craving one for 2 weeks already. Did a home workout today and running tomorrow to prep for the 5k I'm running on Saturday. YIKES. I've been doing tons of cardio but haven't just RUN outside in forever. What happened to the days when a 5k was an easy run?
I promise I'll remember to weigh in Wednesday when I'm at the gym for step. At least I'm going to try my best to remember.
Gotta go...multi-tasking is causing me to miss important parts of The Bachelor finale.

Ideal Weight

My ideal weight is 40 pounds away. Geez.

I've been a bad, bad girl.

So, after having not been to kickboxing in several days, I am back, baby! And I am eating GREAT on the weekdays and eating terribly on the weekends. Kinda. But when it comes to "dranks," I am sticking to wine and vodka as much as possible. I didn't weigh in last week but when Wednesday rolls around, I am all over it. I just need reminders. LaLa. Oh, and I played a bit of tackle football while drunk Saturday night and had such a good time but I am almost positive that I broke my spleen.

Down With Mexico! Viva La Tejas!

I was really bad this weekend.  And I can't even blame the whole thing on Texas Independence day (only the frito pie, beer & tequila).  The rest I just blame on my lack of will power.  Saturday I did ok...mostly because I was too tired to eat much, but Sunday I had 2 slices of pizza & a chipotle burrito.  I'm scared to put it in my spreadsheet.

Two more days until the next weigh in.  Although, apparently I'm the only one that actually does the weigh-ins, so you two shouldn't worry yourselves.

Happy Texas Independence Day girls!
